Violence against women is a men's issue
It鈥檚 Safer Campus Community Week, and I'm聽wondering how we can hope to create a safe and respectful聽environment聽at a time when we are experiencing a global epidemic of violence against one of our most vulnerable groups: women.

Now that we鈥檝e lived in a global pandemic for over a year, it鈥檚 safe to say the well of content available online is starting to dry up, and聽with much of the world still in lockdown, we can鈥檛 ignore the fact that our relationship with entertainment has changed.

As kids, we鈥檙e told to dream big. We鈥檙e told that if we put our minds to it, we can achieve anything. But has the emphasis on聽achieving our dreams helped us, or hindered us?

Friendship and distance
We grow accustomed to our friends being around;聽they form part of our routine, even part of our identities. What happens, then, when friends are聽separated by聽distance聽鈥撀燽ig or small?
Money and meaning
The final week of summer is upon us. Although I鈥檒l be missing the glory of summer days, it鈥檚 quite exciting that the university campus will be welcoming eager young minds into its halls again. It鈥檚 the start of a new academic year, we have new leadership with a new Vice-Chancellor at the helm, and there鈥檚 the promise of new beginnings which gives hope. There鈥檚 also Mad March and then looking forward to cooling nights, indulgent pasta, and winter.

If you鈥檙e like me, you probably have complicated feelings about celebrities. I can acknowledge the systems that produce celebrity: rampant capitalism, an at times cult-like worship and an underlying commodification of the self are all preconditions for celebrity in the 21st听肠别苍迟耻谤测.
Finding comfort in fiction
When things are hard, novels are not the first place I go. Usually I will seek easier distraction through social media, television and junk food. But novels聽蝉丑辞耻濒诲听be my first port of call.聽
Where we've been, where we're going
We鈥檝e almost reached the end of the year. I鈥檓 not where I thought I鈥檇 be;聽I suspect a lot of us aren鈥檛.
Buying a car, again
I recently bought a car. A used one of course, I鈥檓 still a student after all!
