Pre-Submission Review (Arts and Sciences) - Reminder

All Higher Degree by Research Students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts or Faculty of Sciences are required to complete a Pre-Submission Review. The due date for 2018 and onwards will be transitioned to a candidature consumption model, based on a students’ FTE into candidature as follows:

  • 33 months or half-time equivalent from candidature commencement for PhD students and
  • 21 months or half-time equivalent from candidature commencement for Master by Research students

Recognising that a number of Arts and Sciences students completed the Pre-Submission Review due on 31 October 2017, whilst others have exceeded the 33 (PhD) /21 (Master) FTE months into candidature since that date, the following principles have been agreed to manage the transition:

  • Where a student completes a Review and has not yet submitted their thesis for examination, they will be required to complete another Pre-Submission Review 12 months from the previous due date. Accordingly, any student who completed a Pre-Submission Review in 2017 will be assigned a 2018 Pre-Submission due date of 31 October 2018.
  • Any student who has not previously completed a Pre-Submission Review but who has exceeded 33 months of FTE candidature in the case of the PhD or 21 months FTE of candidature in the case of a Master by Research since 31 October 2017, will be assigned a due date of 31 August 2018.
  • By request to the Graduate Centre, an Annual Review of Progress which falls due within three months of a Pre-Submission Review may be waived.

If you have any questions regarding the Pre-Submission Review milestone please do not hesitate to contact the Graduate Centre.
