Partner With Us
The Adelaide Graduate Research School offers our partners valuable engagement opportunities across research areas within the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide.
Working closely with business and industry leaders we recruit and position PhD candidates to collaborate on world-leading research, to solve real world problems. Together with our partners, we provide our researchers of the future with the resources, training, mentoring and experience needed to gain a head-start in their career.
Research collaboration
Collaborating on a higher degree by research (HDR) project enables our partners to capitalise on the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide’s world-leading research, and drive innovation.
Industry-engaged HDR projects are developed through consultations between a partner organisation and ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog supervisors. Together, this team will formulate a research program to address an industry-identified problem, and recruit an exceptional candidate from the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog’s global pool of postgraduate applicants to conduct the research and development activities.
By sponsoring a HDR project you will have the opportunity to incorporate an exceptional researcher within your organisation, throughout the duration of candidature. Moreover, under the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog’s innovative Research Internship program the Adelaide Graduate Research School will support the candidate to undertake a three-month placement with your organisation to work on a dedicated R&D project.
The AGRS industry engagement team supports our partners throughout this process. To learn more about how our innovative research programs can benefit your organisation please feel free to contact us at hdrindustryenq@adelaide.edu.au.

Frequently asked questions
What is an industry-engaged HDR project?
An industry-engaged HDR project sees a postgraduate researcher at the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide collaborate with a partner organisation on research and development throughout the duration of their candidature. The student’s research project, and a potential Research Internship, are developed in collaboration between the partner and ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog supervisors. Projects will address an industry problem while complying with the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog’s usual requirements for a PhD program. The combination of sector-relevant research and placement training provides an invaluable opportunity for students to engage with real world problems.
What are my obligations as a partner organisation?
For a partner organisation, there is expectation of a financial contribution towards a Scholarship stipend and research costs. We also request that you make available a suitable industry supervisor who can oversee research activities during candidate and any internship placement.
The ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog also encourages our partners to offer the student guidance regarding training opportunities, career development, and advice on navigating the sector overall.
A student agreement, which outlines the schedule, scope of research activities, and ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog and external supervisors, must be agreed by all parties prior to the scholarship’s advertisement.
For a prospective funding breakdown please contact: hdrindustryenq@adelaide.edu.au.
How long are research internships?
Research Internships run for a minimum duration of three months or 60 FTE days, with the potential for longer placements. A Letter of Intent which outlines internship activities will be agreed by all parties within the first eighteenth months of candidature.
Eligible interns will be supported by the Adelaide Graduate Research School with a three-month Research Internship scholarship at the standard RTPS rate (pro rata). The ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog requires partner organisations to cover all research costs for the duration of a placement.
What is the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide’s policy regarding Intellectual Property (IP)?
Prior to the placement, an agreement regarding intellectual property (IP) covering both the research and placement components of the degree must be agreed to and verified by all parties. Typically, students will assign any project and placement IP to the industry partner, while any background research IP will be retained by the student/×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog.
