  • Career Mentor

    Do you remember what it was like to start your first job out of ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog? The challenges, the highlights and the lessons learned since then. This is your chance to share that knowledge.

    Facilitated by the Career Services team, our mentoring programs connect current students to industry professionals. Mentoring is a learning relationship that focuses on the mentee's goals and development. Our programs provide students with an opportunity to develop career management skills and increase employability in their industry, based on their mentor's insights, guidance and personal perspectives. Mentors engage in the learning and coaching process, helping students to achieve their goals.

    Responsibilities

    • Facilitate the development of your mentee, based on their needs
    • Act as a resource, adviser or coach based on their needs.
    • Participation in the program is based on both your availability and students' requirements.

    Who can apply?

    We welcome expressions of interest from all industry professionals, of all experience areas, levels and personal backgrounds. You can be based in Adelaide, interstate or overseas. You do not have to be an alumnus of the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog to be involved.

    Current students of the university are unable to apply for this volunteer role.

  • HREC Indigenous Representative (proxy), ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide Human Research Ethics Committee

    Please note this is a proxy role that is required only for backfill when the primary representative is unavailable.

    The role of the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) is to protect the welfare and rights of participants in research undertaken at, or in conjunction with, the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide. This is done in accordance with the NHMRC (National Statement).

    The HREC reviews research submissions and considers the ethical implications of proposed research projects on human participants and determines whether they are acceptable on ethical grounds.

    The HREC also includes the following membership categories: a chairperson, community members, health professionals, pastoral care representative, indigenous representative, a lawyer and experienced researchers.

    Eligibility
    • Current knowledge of research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and/or knowledge of indigenous culture.
    Skills, expertise, experience, knowledge
    • Ability to read and review large research applications and bring a community perspective to meetings.
    • A willingness to be an active contributor.
    • Experience in reviewing large documents.
    • Experience on a committee.
    Attendance requirements / Time Commitment
    • Available to attend meetings on Monday afternoons and provide out of session review on an ad hoc basis
    • Initial 3-year term.
    • The HREC meets ten times each year on a Monday; meetings are from 2-5pm.
    • Out-of-session pre-reading of applications is required in preparation for meetings (3-4 hours per month).
    Location
    • Committee meetings are held at the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide, Rundle Mall Plaza, Adelaide or via Microsoft Teams.

  • International Student Support - Talking With Aussies Volunteer

    The Talking With Aussies program helps international students improve their conversational English skills. Volunteers come from a range of age groups and backgrounds, and include students, staff, retirees and working professionals.

    Responsibilities

    • To meet with students an hour a week for a Semester.
    • To foster students’ language development, helping them to communicate with confidence, strengthen their pronunciation, and Aussie slang. This will be of a general nature; the program is not a tutoring or editing service.
    • To engage in a range of conversation topics which may help the student become more familiar with ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlogn customs and culture.

    Who can apply?

    Applicants should have a good standard of spoken English, and the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and age groups with a patient and friendly manner.   • Urrbrae House School's History Program

    This interactive schools program for primary students is usually held on Wednesday mornings at the Waite Historic Precinct during school term. This program immerses primary school students into the recreated world of 1892. Our volunteers contribute by developing a character through role-play and costumes to help recreate the past for the children.

    Responsibilities

    • lead children through various activities
    • role-play characters from the 1890s
    • dress in period costumes from the 1890s
    • adhere to the Child Safety Protection Policy and Code of Conduct
    • undertake required training and screenings for the role

    Who can apply?

    Applicants can be alumni, staff or members of the public. This role suits those that have an interest in history and enjoy working with children. Volunteers must have excellent communication skills, be reliable, punctual and committed to the program. Please note that the program runs most Wednesday mornings during school term. This is a long term volunteer role and requires a working with children check before commencement.

  • Waite Conservation Reserve

    The Waite Conservation Reserve is noted as one of the largest and best surviving examples of Grey Box Grassy Woodland in South ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog. Home to more than 200 species of native plants as well as kangaroos, koalas and echidnas, it is a valuable asset to the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide and the people of South ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog.

    The are a group of volunteers who work with the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide to maintain and improve the natural value of the reserve and the visitor experience.ÌýÌýVolunteers play an important role in the maintenance, rehabilitation and day to day functioning of the reserve through their .

    Responsibilities

    • track maintenance
    • biological survey and monitoring
