Re-starting the study mindset

It's time to fire up the study engines again!

It's that time of year. The semester is here and it's time to gear up and get stuck into another (hopefully) wonderful academic year. After the summer break, it can be hard to switch out of the relaxation mindset. Or if you're like me - the work mindset. Study is a whole other ball game and there is so much that comes with it. So don't be hard on yourself, this time is an adjustment too! Here are my top tips to get you back into the mood and prepare for a great semester.

1. Re-read some of your old assignments (this one won't apply to new students) and remind yourself what you liked about them or what needed to improve. This will help engage some critical thinking and narrow your focus for coming assignments.聽

2. Find some books on a topic you are passionate about. I have done this during the break too, to keep in touch with areas of interest and reduce forgetting. You can also do this with research papers - find some that you're interested in and analyse the key elements.聽

3. Get in touch with fellow students and academics. Talk about previous studies, get excited and look ahead at opportunities throughout the semester.聽

4. Read ahead. If you have materials available on MyUni, read up and get a head start on classes before things get busy.

5. Get involved in orientation activities and set the mood for study! Whether you're a new student or returning, spending time with like-minded people during O'week can really help you feel connected.聽

6. Spend time on campus. Even if it's just to catch up with friends or have a bite to eat, being in the area can help re-jig some memories.聽

7. Look at scholarships, research opportunities or jobs that spark your interest to provide some motivation for your study goals.聽

I hope these ideas help and that you're just as excited to get back into it as I am! See you on campus.聽
