How to start journaling

Journals and pencils

What is journaling? Well, it is basically just writing about any aspect of your life and how you feel about it.

I have been journaling for a while now, and it is definitely one of my favourite forms of self-care. Getting all of your thoughts and worries out on paper can make life seem a little bit less scary than you think it is. Controlling your emotions, decluttering your thoughts, and destressing can really improve your mental health.

Starting journaling is as easy as picking up a notebook and a pen and letting go of any negative thoughts. However, when you start, it might be difficult to think of anything to write about, so here is a short list of journal prompts and ideas:

  • DIARY: Write about your day! What was your favourite and least favourite part of it? What is something you are proud of yourself for doing today?

  • GRATITUDE: Write a list of things you are grateful for today. We are so lucky, and it鈥檚 important to acknowledge the many aspects of life we are grateful for.

  • FAVOURITES: What are your favourite things recently? Your favourite movie, food, or song? You could also write a review on a recent movie you watched or a book you read. I love writing a list of my favourite things every so often and seeing what changes.

For more prompts, I recommend looking on Pinterest or TikTok. There are so many out there, so I am sure at least one will spark your interest in journaling.

And just remember, your journal and writing definitely does not have to be perfect! Just pick up a pen and a notebook and start writing whatever comes to mind.
