City bakeries

Bakery and baked goods

Baked goods, yum!

What's so great about bakeries?

It's quite a convenient takeaway place. You can get both sweet and savoury food and there's usually always coffee and hot chocolate available on the menu too. A nice spinach pasty and a chocolate doughnut always conjures happy memories of travelling around the country and camping. Even while en route to a holiday destination, bakeries are an easy and welcome pit stop.听

Now that the weather's warming up too, I enjoy taking a break by having my lunch outdoors. My PhD office is underground and so I prefer having my lunch outdoors as much as possible. (Click听here for some nearby city picnic spots.) Bakeries are a great place to pick up some food to take away. Here are some of my favourite ones close to the city. They provide a substantial walk from my office at campus and allows me to get some much-needed exercise and time for self-carr.

  • @abbotsandkinney. They actually have four locations, with one along North Terrace and another one on Pirie Street. Their coffee is delicious and so is their indulgent array of pastries. They've also recently included Napolitana pizzas in their menu.听
  • @bakeryonoconnell. They are open 24 hours. This is a big deal for PhD students like me! They're located in North Adelaide and they have an assortment of vegan treats too. You can also order smoothies and coffee. For the brave ones, they ocassionally make a Milo Malteser cronut!
  • 听@perrymansbakery. They call themselves the 'home of the lunchtime pie', so I thought I'd give them a try. I loved the lamb, roast potato and rosemary pie. I am looking forward to what summer meat听pies they'll be making next month.听
It wouldn't be a picnic without the ants."Unknown
