Back to uni: sustainable eats recommendations

One of my favourite times on campus is grabbing lunch or having dinner with friends (after hustling a study session of course!). It’s something exciting to look forward to after a long day of lectures and classes.

As the years go by, I’m finding there is greater awareness of the impact our diet has on the planet – more of us are opting to reduce our meat intake and food businesses are broadening their menus (and focusing on local produce).

It’s fairly unusual to not find a restaurant which doesn’t cater for vegan or vego options which is great! I recently attended a committeeÌýmeeting at Veggo Sizzle and was inspired to write about my experience and other sustainable eats I’d recommend while on campus.

1. Veggo Sizzle

Located on Pulteney St, is the perfect location for a clubs meeting or a warm dinner with friends! Having just moved locations, this new venue is spacious, accommodating and the updated menu covers all your possible cravings. This menu is plant based and offers dine-in and delivery from 12pm. Their laksa is incredibleÌýand the chocolate avocado mousse is a must try!

2. K-Pub

If you’re wanting to venture out via a nice walk or tram,Ìýhead to on Gouger St (China town). They are open from 5pm till late – so perfect for dinner after class! K-pub has a separate vegan menu which features traditional Korean dishes (such as Man doo and Kim-chi fried rice). I would also recommend sharing their vegetable hot pot with a few friends, especially during thisÌýcold weather we’ve been experiencing lately!

3. Mr Viet

My all-time favourite lunch option would be ’s pho. It’s perfect if you only have an hour break between classes – it’s locatedÌýon James Place in Rundle Mall! Their combo deals are perfect if you’re looking for a filling, inexpensive lunch (a bowl of pho, a bao and a drink for $12)! Their vegan pho tastes so authentic!

4. Two Bit Villians

If you’re looking for a getaway and perhaps something small, like a shake or coffee,ÌýI would highly recommend ! Located within Adelaide Arcade (including a balcony view), this vego restaurant has an extensive menu – including, nachos, burgers, pub food and more! I’m a huge fan of their handmade sodas and iceys.ÌýThey are open for lunch and dinner, and also feature amazing art from local artists.

If you haven’t tried one of these places out – I would highly recommend.ÌýThey really highlightÌýthe variety when it comes to plant based cuisine – sustainable eating is delicious and has the bonus of being great for the planet!
