Dear music, sorry that I forgot about you

I never really use to listen to music until I came to university—with the exception of my primary school Kpop phase (no regrets) and classical music for studying. This meant that I did indeed sit in silence on long bus rides. I liked the serenity of silence and associated music with parties – you could say that I simply forgot that I could listen to music whenever I wanted to.

Upon downloading Spotify in 2018, I was excited and spoilt for choice. I began to build a playlist. ‘I’ll Be Missing You (feat 112) by Diddy and Faith Evans’ was my first liked song, followed by ‘Groove Is in the Heart’ by Deee-Lite.
This revealed that I really liked listening to songs that appeared somewhere growing up (throwback to So Fresh CDs). There is something comforting and dreamy listening to songs that you never quite know the title of but sound so familiar.

Now day’s you can probably catch me with my AirPods listening to an array of music genres.  I find it cool that you can walk past someone listening to music without knowing what they’re listening to – but you know they’re having a good time. In my opinion, you can’t beat the fun feeling of blasting throwback music on a long drive or by yourself in your room.

Music is so powerful, and I wish I had made the effort to listen more. It has the power to change your mood, unite people with common tastes and provide a fun escape. I love the nostalgic journey of revisiting old music, so below find a gift!

Here’s a list of songs that I love and I hope those who listen can enjoy.
