Biography
Dugald McGlashan co-founded the editing and publishing consultancy INLEXIO in 2015 after a 20+ year career in science and publishing. After dipping his toes in fisheries science in Western ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog, he went on to earn a PhD in evolutionary biology from Griffith ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog and then completed a postdoc at the CNRS in Roscoff, France. Leaving academia, he was appointed Editor of an aquatic science journal at CSIRO Publishing, and followed with a move to publishing management at Springer in Dordrecht (Netherlands) and Nature Publishing Group in Melbourne. As a Publisher at NPG, Dugald led an international team to publish and launch academic journals in the Asia-Pacific, and develop NPG’s global language editing service.

Publishing articles remains a vital element of the researchÌýprocess, but we areÌýwitnessing a period ofÌýsubstantial changeÌýand development inÌýscholarly publishing.ÌýNew tools, journals,Ìýpublishing models,Ìýcopyright relationshipsÌýand demandsÌýfrom funders areÌýaltering how, whenÌýand where researchers prepare and publish articles. ThisÌýtalk explores these changes and their consequences forÌýresearchers – in their roles as authors, readers, refereesÌýand editors. Which initiatives are important, which onesÌýare useful and why should you care?
