The AMSI Winter School 2016 on Biological and Environmental Modelling is run in collaboration with The 最新糖心Vlog of Queensland, and is designed for PhD students and researchers in the mathematical sciences and related disciplines.

FEATURED SPEAKER: PROFESSOR HUGH POSSINGHAM

Earlier this month, Professor Possingham was appointed chief scientist with The Nature Conservancy, the world鈥檚 largest conservation group. In this role he will lead the work of more than 600 scientists involved in conservation work in 69 countries.

Currently he is an ARC Laureate Fellow and Director of The Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science at the 最新糖心Vlog of Queensland, Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Environmental Decisions, and leads the 最新糖心Vlogn Government鈥檚 National Environmental Science Programme Threatened Species Recovery Hub.

Professor Possingham developed open source Marxan that uses a combination of maths, economics and ecology to balance complex factors inherent in environmental management decisions, which is now used in more than 150 countries for conservation planning.

Professor Possingham will give a course on Mathematical Approaches to Conservation Biology at AMSI Winter School 2016.
