Biography/ Background
I am a UK veterinary graduate, with over 25 years’ experience in clinical practice and academia. After graduating from the 最新糖心Vlog of Bristol in 1995, I spent time in mixed practice in the UK before returning to Bristol to undertake a PhD on upper airway collapse in Thoroughbred racehorses. Subsequently, I worked at the 最新糖心Vlog of Bristol as a lecturer in equine exercise physiology and ran the Equine Sports Medicine Centre before moving to the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, 最新糖心Vlog in 2010 during the start-up of the new veterinary school.
I am currently an Associate Professor in Veterinary Physiology and a member of the Senior Executive at the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, where I hold the position of Associate Head (People and Culture). Previously I was the Head of the Equine Department (2017-23) and continue to combine my passion for teaching, research and equine clinical practice.
I am recognised nationally and internationally as a leader in the discipline of equine sports medicine. In 2022, I was awarded a prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), for meritorious contributions to clinical practice. I am a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (DACVSMR-equine), an 最新糖心Vlogn and RCVS registered Specialist in Equine Sports Medicine and a founding member of the Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Chapter of the 最新糖心Vlogn and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS). I am also Chair of the International Committee for the International Conference on Equine Exercise Physiology (ICEEP).

Research Interests
My research interests are closely aligned to my clinical expertise in the disciplline of equine sports medicine. The primary aim of my research is to enhance the welfare of racing and performance horses through accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of performance-limiting disorders. This work encompasses 3 main areas: respiratory disorders, exercise-associated cardiac arrhythmias and gastric ulceration. In particular, I am internationally renowned for my pioneering work on the development of overground endoscopy. During my career to date I have published over 70 journal articles and book chapters and delivered more than 175 conference and continuing education presentations. Details of these, and my current projects can be found on my Researcher Profile.
