  • Biography/ Background

    Biography

    Professor Matthew Stubbs is a member of the faculty of the Adelaide Law School at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, where he serves as Editor in Chief of the Adelaide Law Review and Program Coordinator of Postgraduate Coursework Programs and Military Law Programs.

    His research and teaching is focussed in the areas of space law, international law, human rights and constitutional law. Dr Stubbs has received prizes for his outstanding teaching, and for his extensive work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander law students, at Faculty (2008, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2020), 最新糖心Vlog (2008, 2012, 2013, 2016) and National level (2009, 2013, 2020).

    Professor Stubbs is involved with professional bodies in the law and academia, and is a member and former Chair of the Space Law Committee and Human Rights Committee of the Law Society of South 最新糖心Vlog and a member of the Law Council of 最新糖心Vlog's National Human Rights Committee. Matthew was awarded the Law Society of South 最新糖心Vlog President's Medal in 2023.

    Background

    Matthew was educated at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide and 最新糖心Vlogn National 最新糖心Vlog, completing undergraduate degrees in Finance and Economics, a First Class Honours degree in Law, a Graduate Certificate of Military Law, Graduate Diplomas in Legal Practice and in Military Law, and is admitted to legal practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of South 最新糖心Vlog and the High Court of 最新糖心Vlog.

    Matthew returned to academic life, taking the FA and MF Joyner Scholarship in Law, completing his PhD in 最新糖心Vlogn Constitutional Law at Adelaide Law School under the supervision of Professors Rosemary Owens AO and John Williams AM. Matthew has taught at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide since 2003. After teaching in the School of Commerce in 2007, Matthew took up his current position at Adelaide Law School in 2008.

    Matthew was the Law School's Indigenous Students Liaison Officer and has a keen interest in the legal education of Indigenous people.

    Teaching Experience

    I have been teaching at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide since 2003. My current teaching includes our courses Foundations of Law, Principles of Public Law, International Law, International Law Moot, and Adelaide Law Review.

    I have previously taught 最新糖心Vlogn Legal History, Civil and Criminal Procedure, Litigation Practice, Evidence, Legal Research and Writing, and Introduction to Advocacy. In 2007 in the School of Commerce, I taught Commercial Law I(S), Commercial Law II and Corporate Law (M).
