Teaching Interests
My primary teaching goal is to be able to attain clarity of understanding for all students regardless of their capabilities or background. I strive to support student diversity of learning styles (particular through the use of elearning tools), to inspire and engage students at all levels of teaching from undergraduate through to postgraduate level, to encourage independence and development of skills to produce graduates of the highest level prepared for the workforce.

Research Interests
My research focus is in pharmacology and more specifically, clinical pharmacogenomics: the impact that genetics has on drug response and adverse drug reactions. Given the lack of clinical translation of classical pharmacogenetics in achieving personalised medicine goals that were expected following the advances in genetics (eg. the human genome project), my research through this unique complimentary approach seeks to advance our scientific knowledge of various diseases and their treatments and bring the possibility of personalised medicine closer to a reality. Consequently, the health conditions in which I now actively research currently includes: drug metabolism and response (cancer, addiction, solid-organ transplantation outcomes), neurogastroenterology and molecular toxicity (via a chemotherapy-induced model of mucositis), drug abuse and addiction (alcohol, opioid and behavioural), pain (chronic pain in spinal cord injury and fibromyalgia), gulf-war illness and epilepsy.
Key words: Clinical pharmacology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics, drug metabolism, drug transport, drug receptors, drug signalling pathways, immune genetics
