What motivated you to participate in an overseas experience?
I wanted to participate in a program to experience living independent in a different country. Being able to study as well as travel to different parts of the world is an opportunity that not many people have.听

What was the highlight of your Exchange?
The highlight of my exchange was creating a life for myself in England, I had to adapt to the new culture and live with 9 flatmates. I formed so many friendships that living in Nottingham felt like home. I also enjoyed being able to travel to many different parts of Europe during study breaks.

What challenges did you face during your Exchange, and how did you overcome them?
Initially it can be challenging to navigate your new environment and find people who will help you out. It can be difficult to create your routine such as grocery shopping, new campus and new people whilst maintaining studies. I overcame this by learning to be confident enough in myself that I can work out whatever challenge faces me that day. I also learnt to lean on my flatmates and just talk about whatever was bothering me that day as it normalises day to day problems that everyone faces.

What was your biggest takeaway from your experience?
The biggest takeaway for me was how easy it is to adapt to a new place and create a life for yourself once you feel comfortable being in your own company.听

What new skills or knowledge did you gain from the experience?
I gained so much confidence within myself and in social situations. There were many times I had to start talking to people around me, which in some cases ended up being friendships I still have after returning. I also gained resilience to keep going and problem solve until you get where you want to be.听

How did participating in an Exchange influence your personal growth?
I grew in many areas of my life, I learnt to enjoy my own company and the importance of being appreciative of the simple things in life. I learnt how to live more minimalistic and acknowledge that experiences will trump materialistic possessions any day. I am much more confident in being myself and I believe more in the goals I wish to achieve in my life.听
What is something that would entice you to travel back to UK?
The friendships I made, the culture of British people, and the accessibility to be so close to the rest of Europe.听

Do you have 1 piece of advice you would tell other students thinking about going on Exchange?
My only advice would be to just do it, you learn things about yourself and the world that you didn鈥檛 expect to learn. It is also very important to track spending every week/month because you never know where you鈥檒l decide to travel to!
