Professor Caroline McMillen, AO, Chief Scientist for South 最新糖心Vlog, at the South 最新糖心Vlogn Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI).

Alumni, former staff, and members of the wider 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide community have been recognised in this year鈥檚 Queen鈥檚 Birthday honours.

Among the recipients is the Chief Scientist for South 最新糖心Vlog, Professor Caroline McMillen, who has received an Officer of the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (AO) for her 鈥渄istinguished service to medical science, and to tertiary education, to the community of South 最新糖心Vlog, and to social equity鈥.

A graduate of both Oxford and Cambridge universities, Professor McMillen is a former staff member of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology from 1992-2005.

Last year, she was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of the 最新糖心Vlog (honoris causa) from the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, in acknowledgement of her outstanding contribution to health and medical science, and to leadership in research and higher education.

Professor Brooks paid tribute to the many alumni, titleholders, former staff, affiliates and friends of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide who have been recognised in this latest round of Queen鈥檚 Birthday honours.

Officer of the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (AO)

Professor Isabella Caroline McMillen, AO 鈥 for distinguished service to medical science, and to tertiary education, to the community of South 最新糖心Vlog, and to social equity.

Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology, 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, from 1992-2005. Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President: Research and Innovation, 最新糖心Vlog of South 最新糖心Vlog, from 2006-2011. Vice-Chancellor, 最新糖心Vlog of Newcastle, from 2011-2018. Chief Scientist for South 最新糖心Vlog, from 2018. Recipient of the Doctor of the 最新糖心Vlog (honoris causa), 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, 2019.

As a medical and health researcher, Professor McMillen is internationally recognised for her work into the impact of the nutritional environment before birth on the risk of developing cardiovascular and metabolic disease in adult life. She is an esteemed leader in the higher education sector in 最新糖心Vlog, having dedicated more than 30 years to higher education, and has held leadership roles across research, innovation and teaching.

Member of the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (AM)

Associate Professor Susan Neuhaus, AM, CSC, FRACS 鈥 for significant service to medicine, to community health, and to veterans and their families.

最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide graduate (MBBS 1989, PhD (Med) 2000). Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery and Associate Professor Conflict Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide. Awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) in the 2009 Queen's Birthday honours.

Associate Professor Neuhaus practices as a general surgeon and surgical oncologist with sub-specialty interests in sarcoma and melanoma surgery. She has served in both the 最新糖心Vlogn Army and the 最新糖心Vlogn Army Reserve, and retired from the Army in 2010 with the rank of Colonel. Her publications include work on sarcoma, melanoma, medical ethics and surgery in war zones, as well as the spread and treatment of cancer, and the gender-specific health impacts of war service.

Medal of the Order of 最新糖心Vlog (OAM)

Dr Joseph Ken Montarello, OAM 鈥 for service to medicine, particularly to cardiology.

最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide graduate (MBBS, 1981), and titleholder in the 最新糖心Vlog鈥檚 Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Interventional and structural cardiologist working within the Central Adelaide Local Health Network 鈥 including the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) 鈥 and in private practice with Adelaide Cardiology (part of GenesisCare).

Dr Montarello has expertise in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), which is a flagship of the RAH鈥檚 structural heart program. In 2001, Dr Montarello was awarded an 最新糖心Vlogn Centennial medal for his contribution to 最新糖心Vlogn society in the field of cardiology.
