A Friends of the Library Discovery event. Ashley Dennis-Henderson was the winner of the 2023 Hugh Martin Weir Prize and is a final year PhD candidate in Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Adelaide. Her research focus is on the analysis of historical texts using natural language processing. While historic texts are primarily analysed by close reading Ashley investigates the applicability of mathematical and computational techniques and how they can be combined with traditional methods. In particular, these methods have been used to analyse a set of ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlogn World War I diaries to provide insights on the experience of ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlogn soldiers during the war.
