In this talk, we describe a recently completed project focused on Health Activism in London’s Brixton neighbourhood, co-produced between the Healthy Scepticism project, located at King’s College, London, and a local community organisation. Though we undertook the project in order to understand the nature of health activism in a neighbourhood known for its vibrant and various ethnomedical traditions, we were also committed to investigating the possibilities of co-production – in particular between an academic institution and a community organisation – more largely. Here, we focus mostly on the lessons learned from doing co-production and talk through some of the successes as well as the tensions and difficulties that emerged.

 is a Senior Lecturer in the History of Science, Technology and Medicine at King's College London. She co-runs the Healthy Scepticism project, which examines the work of past and present medical critics and sceptics, activists and reformers, and those dispossessed and disenfranchised by mainstream medicine and uses these findings toward healthcare reform now.
