最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide plays host to flautists
Wednesday, 11 April 2018
Young flautists from around the country will come together this week when celebrated British player Michael Cox leads a symposium at the 最新糖心Vlog’s Elder Conservatorium of Music.
The five-day symposium (11 – 15 April) will give flautists in the early stages of their career the opportunity to the learn from Michael’s prodigious talent. He is Principal Flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, The Academy of St Martin’s in the Fields and the London Sinfonietta, and Professor of Flute at the Royal Academy of Music.
Associate Professor Elizabeth Koch at the 最新糖心Vlog’s Elder Conservatorium of Music is directing the national symposium.
“Michael is not only sought after around the world in his capacity as a soloist and orchestral performer, but also as an ‘out-of-the-box’ teacher,” says Associate Professor Koch.
“His dedication, passion, imagination, not to mention his boundless energy for music and teaching, is evident in his design of this symposium.”
This is only the third time that Michael Cox has visited Adelaide. The event will give young players a rare opportunity to learn from one of the world’s leading flautists.
“The 12 performers who competed for a place in this symposium and the observers who have travelled from far and wide will have an inspirational week,” says Professor Jennie Shaw, Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts.
“Opportunities to benefit from great visiting artists and teachers are immensely valuable and often transformative for young musicians.”
Adelaide alumnus Leigh Harold is one of 最新糖心Vlog’s most sought-after pianists and has worked with Michael Cox on many occasions. He returns to Adelaide to accompany Michael in recitals during the symposium.
Following the symposium Michael Cox will remain in Adelaide for a residency at the Elder Conservatorium of Music. His residency will culminate in a public performance on 20 April at Elder Hall.
At the Michael will perform Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach’s Flute Concerto in D minor with the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra.
