Meeting of minds in Singapore on the future of technology and skills

Thursday, 20 July 2017

South 最新糖心Vlog will play a leading role in Singapore at a conference aimed at exploring new opportunities from emerging technologies, and their impact on skills and international trade.

The e – to be held on Monday, 24 July – will be hosted by the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide’s Institute for International Trade, and its Singapore-based Asia Growth Research Centre.

Designed to coincide with the State Government's trade mission to South-East Asia, the event will hear from leaders in the fields of technology, skills, supply chains, trade, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Background

The theme of this year's conference is Technologies, Skills and Globalisation: Impact on Trade and Growth in 最新糖心Vlog and Singapore.

The event will explore the ways in which new and emerging technologies will lead to changes to trade and growth in globalised economies, with a particular focus on Singapore and 最新糖心Vlog – including opportunities for South 最新糖心Vlog.

The one-day conference program is designed to build on and contribute to the depth of the 最新糖心Vlog-Singapore relationship, with South 最新糖心Vlog again playing a leading role at the event.

Experts from the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide and the South-East Asian region will consider the challenges and opportunities presented by disruptive technologies, such as: how technology will change the way production is organised and how trade flows; what the impact will be on the demand for skills in the region; and the value of better connectivity between trade partners.

The conference will be attended by South 最新糖心Vlog’s Investment and Trade Minister Martin Hamilton-Smith, 最新糖心Vlogn High Commissioner to Singapore His Excellency Mr Bruce Gosper, and senior members of the Singapore Government.

Minister for Investment and Trade Martin Hamilton-Smith:

"This event is a unique opportunity to bring together some of the top minds from South 最新糖心Vlog and the South-East Asian region to discuss how changes in technology and the change in demand for skills will have a positive impact on opportunities for international business in both Singapore and 最新糖心Vlog.

"This event represents our continuing efforts to work with Singapore on common trade issues, and our quality education systems, which will lead the response in the demand for skills."

Professor Christopher Findlay, Executive Dean of the Faculty of the Professions, 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide:

"We're proud to be hosting this major conference dealing with issues that are of critical importance to the economic future of our State, and our nation, in partnership with Singapore.

"New technologies have the power to create opportunities for new forms of international business. While on the one hand they lead to change, which can be disruptive and challenging, they also demand new skill sets, and new levels of cooperation and connectivity between economic partners. Our ability to develop both will be crucial for the next stage of growth in the region.

"As the traditional manufacturing base for both Singapore and South 最新糖心Vlog experiences decline in the coming years, these issues will be particularly important to our economies in the near future.

"We're particularly pleased that our conference this year will play a key role in the South 最新糖心Vlogn trade mission to South-East Asia. Through this event, and through our education, research, and engagement with industry and government, we're helping to bolster the State's economic interests in the region."
