Teaching excellence recognised with national awards

Five 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide academics are being recognised nationally with four awards for excellence in university teaching.

The awards are made annually by the Office for Learning and Teaching Awards in recognition of outstanding contributions to student learning

The 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide award winners are:

Dr Beth Loveys and Dr Karina Riggs (School of Agriculture, Food and Wine) for leading cultural change in undergraduate teaching in agriculture, food and wine using innovative team-teaching approaches that engage students to become independent learners.

Since 2011 Dr Loveys and Dr Riggs have been working together to reinvigorate undergraduate teaching using innovative and novel teaching methods to improve student engagement, motivation and outcomes. Together they have become leaders in their school, inspiring colleagues and students alike.

Dr Joy McEntee (School of Humanities) for developing learning activities and assessment mechanisms that enthuse, engage and support students and staff and promote transformative learning.

Dr McEntee helps her students embrace new ways of thinking. Her work as a teacher has improved student satisfaction and student achievement. She has also initiated innovations in assessment , supporting both staff and students.

Dr Julia Miller (School of Education) for developing creative, collaborative, research-based resources that make English grammar and academic skills fun to learn and teach.

Dr Miller’s approach to learning and teaching involves the production of thoroughly researched, engaging, humorous, innovative online resources involving story-based videos and interactive exercises. Her resources have involved hundreds of students in their development and her grammar website is regularly used by thousands of students and lecturers all over the world.

Dr Claudia Szabo (School of Computer Science) for the development of engaging computer science curricula that address pedagogical and industry concerns, and inspire and motivate student learning.

Dr Szabo’s work reduces gaps between teaching at an expert level and learning at a novice level, making complex concepts accessible. Her industry involvement ensures these concepts are exciting and real.

The awards will be presented on 28 September at the Adelaide Town Hall.
