Thursday, 16 July 2015

The 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide today outlined details of a restructure in the aimed at creating more opportunities for students to work with industry as part of their training from first year and also to improve flexibility around teaching delivery.

Executive Dean of the 最新糖心Vlog's , Professor Jennie Shaw, says: “The Elder Conservatorium of Music is 最新糖心Vlog’s oldest and we intend to make sure it is well-positioned to produce many more generations of exceptional music graduates.”

The restructure follows a comprehensive consultation period with staff, students, industry partners and supporters. Two areas of particular focus were the Centre for Aboriginal Music Studies (CASM) and classical vocal studies.

"CASM was established over 40 years ago to support the study of Aboriginal music with a strong research direction. “Contrary to some recent claims, CASM is not going anywhere,” said Professor Shaw. “But we do want to bring it back to its original purpose and ensure our aspiring Indigenous music students have a clear pathway to either the Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts degrees.”

Key outcomes of the restructure include the:

 - Continuation of the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) for Indigenous students through a foundation program*
 - Establishment of a Voice, Opera, Conducting and Ensemble (VOCE) portfolio
 - Delivery of one-to-one classical voice studies through a panel of outstanding vocal teachers
 - Development of industry partnerships with major performing arts companies

"We must prepare today’s students for multiple career opportunities across different industries, and give them the right foundation and outlook to gain long-term, meaningful employment.

From 2016, the Elder Conservatorium of Music’s portfolios will Classical Performance, Composition, Jazz Performance, Musicology, Music Education and Studio Pedagogy, Popular Music and Creative Technologies, Sonic Arts and Voice, Opera, Conducting and Ensemble (VOCE) and Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM).

* Current students enrolled in the CASM diploma and advanced diploma courses will be given the opportunity to complete their studies and graduate with these awards.
