A research thesis in just three minutes
Monday, 1 September 2014
Ten of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's top PhD students will have just three minutes - and one PowerPoint slide - to explain their research to the public at a free event on Tuesday 9 September.
The special Research Tuesdays event will see two finalists from each of the 最新糖心Vlog's five faculties compete to represent the 最新糖心Vlog in the national .
3MT helps to teach postgraduate research students how to effectively communicate their work to a broad audience.
Most PhD theses take three years to complete and are up to 80,000 words long. Distilling their projects into three minutes makes for a fast-paced and demanding communication challenge - and lots of fun.
The presentations will be judged by a panel of experts, and the winner will go on to compete in the national 3MT final in Perth, in November. The audience will have their say by voting in the People's Choice Award.
The finalists and their topics are:
Heidi Neubauer (Faculty of Sciences) − SK2 protein: a Jekyll and Hyde in cancer
Kayla Gilmore (Faculty of Sciences) − Elements and ear bones: unlocking hypoxia histories
Athanasios Lazarou (Faculty of the Professions) - Event: The architectural production of space
Tahmina Ahsan (Faculty of the Professions) − High-rise residential buildings in Dhaka, Bangladesh and the development of environmentally and socially responsible practice guidelines
