Two of SA's finest orchestras in collaboration
Wednesday, 7 May 2014
The 80-piece Adelaide Youth Orchestra (AdYO) will team up for the first time ever with the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's 65-piece Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra - to present two performances over one massive weekend.
The program will see 's Maestro Series hit new heights in June with a special co-presentation with the Elder Conservatorium of Music's program.
The program for both Maestro Series 2 Titan concerts, on Saturday June 14 at 6.30pm and Sunday June 15 at 3.00pm, is an impressive one.
The (ECSO) will open each concert with two works - Schubert's Overture to Rosamunde, D. 797 and Weber's joyous Clarinet Concertino.
ECSO members are mainly full-time tertiary students within the Bachelor of Music degree. One of those is Samantha Webber - who'll make her debut as a soloist with an orchestra at the Titan concerts - performing Weber's Clarinet Concertino with ECSO. Twenty-year-old Samantha, who took up the clarinet when she was nine and is currently studying with Peter Handsworth at the Elder Conservatorium, has been a member of AdYO and ECSO since 2012. She's currently Principal Clarinet with both orchestras and in her second of year of study at the Elder Conservatorium in the Bachelor of Music-Classical Performance program.
Following interval AdYO, comprising 80 musicians aged 11 to 24, will join ECSO on stage to perform as one ensemble. Together they'll present Mahler's grandiose and lyrical Symphony No 1 Titan - fittingly composed when Mahler himself was just 24.
AdYO and ECSO have been searching for some time for a collaborative performance opportunity which would further strengthen the close ties between the two organisations.
"We're both committed to excellent music education, music-making and creating quality performance opportunities for gifted young musicians - and this historic collaboration ticks all the boxes," says Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM, Director of the 最新糖心Vlog's Elder Conservatorium of Music.
For AdYO, these concerts illustrate the organisation's growing interest in cultivating a culture of shared learning across South 最新糖心Vlog's music circles.
"Collaborations like these allow musicians of all ages to learn from and be inspired by each other - it's a priceless opportunity," says AdYO's Artistic Director, Associate Professor Keith Crellin OAM.
