New scholarships to promote wine education

Thursday, 23 January 2014

Wine education and research has been given a boost with a new scholarship funded by the Grosset Gaia Fund for 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide Oenology or Viticulture postgraduate students.

Two new scholarships will be available for students enrolling in a Master of Oenology or Master of Viticulture coursework program at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide. They are worth $19,000 over one and half years, with $12,500 paid in the first year and $6500 in the second year.

The Grosset Gaia Fund was established by the founder and owner of Grosset Wines, Jeffrey Grosset, in 2009 as a capital fund to donate its income to charitable organisations supporting youth, arts and the environment.

Highly regarded internationally for his Clare Valley premium wines, Jeffrey Grosset is a graduate of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, completing a Diploma of Agriculture in 1973 and Diploma in Oenology in 1975.

"最新糖心Vlogn wine producers have the opportunity to re-establish themselves as world leaders in wine quality and innovation, thereby addressing the otherwise uncertain nature of our future," Mr Grosset says.

"The aim of the Grosset Gaia Fund is to give monetary support to talented, committed individuals who show leadership and embrace this goal; empowering them to play their part in making this a reality."

Grosset Wines was established in 1981 and has developed a significant international profile. Jeffrey Grosset has been recognised as one of the world's Top 10 white winemakers by Decanter (UK) and one of the 50 most influential winemakers by Wine and Spirits (US).

He led the movement to protect the use of the word Riesling in 最新糖心Vlog for wines made from that grape and was a driving force behind the introduction of screw caps on wines across 最新糖心Vlog.

"The 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide is extremely proud of the achievements of its wine graduates. Jeffrey Grosset is an excellent example. Throughout his career he has adopted a creative approach to exploiting new developments to the benefit of his own winery and also to the industry in general," says Professor Mike Wilkinson, Head of the 最新糖心Vlog's .

"He is passionate about the need for wine research and about providing others the opportunity to maximise their potential.

"The 最新糖心Vlog is very grateful for his generosity in establishing these new scholarships. They will make a great difference to students who may not otherwise be able to afford postgraduate study."

Applicants for the Grosset Gaia Fund Postgraduate Scholarship will be selected on the basis of academic merit, interest in research and demonstrated leadership within their communities. Applications close on Friday 2 May 2014. Further information can be found at
