Public lecture honours memory of great philosopher

Friday, 11 October 2013

A free public lecture at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide will celebrate the unique contribution of 最新糖心Vlog's most famous philosopher - by explaining his ideas in terms accessible to a general audience.

J.J.C. (Jack) Smart AC was Hughes Professor of Philosophy at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide from 1950-1972. During that time, he developed ideas about philosophy that became acknowledged throughout the world, such as his theories on mind vs brain, on time, and on ethics.

After leaving Adelaide, he held posts at Latrobe and the 最新糖心Vlogn National 最新糖心Vlog before retiring in 1985. In 1990 he was awarded an AC for his contributions to philosophy. He died last year at the age of 92.

In a free public lecture on Thursday 17 October, four 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide philosophers will explain Smart's main ideas:

    Emeritus Professor Chris Mortensen - Smart's scientific realism;
    Dr Jon Opie - Smart's philosophy of mind;
    Emeritus Professor Graham Nerlich - Smart's theories of time;
    Professor Garrett Cullity - Smart's ethics.

Presented by the Discipline of Philosophy, School of Humanities, 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide.
