Just three minutes to explain impact of research

Ten of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's top PhD students will have only three minutes each to explain their work to the public in an event being held at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's National Wine Centre on the night of Tuesday 10 September.

The students will present their work at the local finals of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. 3MT helps to teach PhD and Masters students how to effectively communicate their research's impact to a broad audience.

At the National Wine Centre, an audience of 350 people will hear the presentations. A judging panel will select a winner who will go through to the 2013 Trans-Tasman finals in Sydney in October. Members of the audience will also vote for the People's Choice Award.

Finalists and their topics are:

Alexander Cameron (Surgery) - Scar Wars
Deborah Furst (Freshwater Ecology) - Flow, the maestro that orchestrates
Kaitlin Harkess (Psychology) - Yoga each day keeps the doctor away
Noby Leong (Chemistry) - Molecular machines - the future of technology?
Renae Leverenz (Law) - Workplace bullying: an examination of offensive behaviour laws
Konrad Pilch (Pure Mathematics) - Solving an unsolved mathematical problem
Joy Talukdar (Education) - A little knowledge is not a dangerous thing: Say 'know' to STIs
Melanie Walters (Music) - Unplayable? The flute music of Felix Werder (1922-2012)
Masoumeh Zargar (Chemical Engineering) - Nano-enhanced RO-membrane makes a difference
Erin Zimmerman (Politics and International Studies) - Think tanks and the 21st century security dilemma

This event is part of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's . It will be hosted by Dr Paul Willis, Director of the Royal Institution of 最新糖心Vlog (RiAus).
