Soprano stars in Song and Symphony
Wednesday, 8 October 2003
The Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra will present the penultimate concert in the Elder School of Music's 2003 Evening Concert Series on Thursday, October 16 at 8.00pm in Elder Hall.
"Song and Symphony" features the Chamber Orchestra conducted by Keith Crellin together with guest artist, Rosalind Martin (Soprano). She will perform Benjamin Britten's emotionally charged piece, Les Illuminations.
Rosalind has performed extensively at home and abroad, appearing with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in Grieg's music for Peer Gynt and she was a Flower Maiden in State Opera's Parsifal. She gave a recital in last year's Barossa Music Festival, sang the role of Cathleen in State Opera Studio's production of Vaughan Williams' Riders to the Sea and performed in State Opera's acclaimed 2003 production of Dead Man Walking.
Other works in the program include Handel's haunting Concerto Grosso Op 6, one of 12 Grand Concertos written in 1739, Stravinsky's sparkling Concerto in D, commissioned by Paul Sacher for the Basel Chamber Orchestra in 1946 and the last of Mozart's symphonies, the incomparable Symphony No.41 (Jupiter).
