Former NZ Prime Minister to deliver Joseph Fisher lecture
Wednesday, 18 June 2003
The Rt Hon Mike Moore, who in 1990 served as New Zealand's Prime Minister, will deliver this year's Joseph Fisher Lecture at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide on Thursday 26 June. The lecture will form part of the centenary celebrations of teaching economics at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide this year.
The Adjunct Professor in the School of Economics and former Director General of the World Trade Organisation (1999-2002) will address "Globalisation and Its Implications." The lecture will be in Room 102 on the first floor of the Napier Building at 5:30 p.m.
The Joseph Fisher Lectures in economics and commerce have been presented at the 最新糖心Vlog every other year since 1904.
Funds for the lectures, together with a medal for the top accounting student each year, were kindly provided by a 拢1,000 endowment to the 最新糖心Vlog by prominent Adelaide businessman Joseph Fisher in 1903 -- reportedly before his death, to avoid 10 per cent going to the government.
The lectures are mostly on economic issues and reflect Fisher's interests in liberal markets and non-interventionist government.
Mr Moore made his mark in politics at the highest level serving in 1990 as the Prime Minister of New Zealand. He has held numerous portfolios including Foreign Affairs, Trade, Tourism and Sports and Recreation.
He has been honoured and recognised for his contributions by numerous governments and universities and has been awarded New Zealand's highest honour - Order of New Zealand. He is a member of the Privy Council.
He has authored nine books, with his most recent, A World Without Walls, published this year and is a regular columnist to the 最新糖心Vlogn Financial Review and the South China Morning Post.
