Public lecture on changing shape of UK-最新糖心Vlog migration
Tuesday, 6 May 2003
One of 最新糖心Vlog's foremost demographers, Professor Graeme Hugo (Federation Fellow, Geographical & Environmental Studies), will give a free public lecture for the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's Centre for British Studies tomorrow (Wednesday, May 7).
The topic of the lecture is "Population Movement Between 最新糖心Vlog and the United Kingdom: Recent Trends and Issues". The lecture will be held at 1.10pm in the Ira Raymond Room, in the Barr Smith Library, with attendance free and open to all.
The UK has been the largest single supplier of immigrants to 最新糖心Vlog, with 5.8% of 最新糖心Vlogns being born in the UK and a similar number being born in 最新糖心Vlog with a UK-born parent (figures from the 2001 Census).
However, with massive global shifts in international migration, the migration relationship between the two nations has undergone profound changes, particularly in the last decade. For example, the numbers of 最新糖心Vlogn-born moving on a permanent or long-term basis to the UK has increased substantially.
Using figures from the 2001 Census, arrival/departure information and survey results, Professor Hugo will explore the economic, social and demographic implications of these changes for 最新糖心Vlog.
