National jazz icon and acclaimed trumpeter will play at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's on Thursday 5 May, kicking off the 2011 evening concert series.

Browne, a jazz drummer with a career spanning 50 years, will make his only Adelaide appearance at Elder Hall, performing with the Elder Conservatorium Big Band 1 and special guest artist, trumpeter and music composer Eugene Ball.

The Ages of Jazz will feature authentic arrangements from the Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong eras of the late 1920s and early 1930s, including such classics as Main Stem, Harlem Air Shaft, Mood Indigo and Mahogany Hall Stomp.

The evening will trace jazz from its beginnings in 1900, through the many different phases of Dixieland, swing, mainstream, bebop, cool, modal, free and fusion, post bop, acid jazz, smooth and retro to today.

Later in the month, classical music lovers will be in for a treat on Saturday 28 May when the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's two new Steinways feature in their first public evening performance at Elder Hall.

Head of Keyboard at the Elder Conservatorium, Lucinda Collins, and Russian pianist Konstantin Shamray will perform Mozart's Concerto for 2 Pianos in A Celebration of Two Steinways, starting at 6.30pm.

Conductor Keith Crellin and the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra will also perform Stravinsky's Pulcinella Suite and Mendelssohn's deeply moving Reformation Symphony.

This year's Evening Concert series will also herald Elder Hall's first Schubertiade on 30 July, a new mid-winter tradition celebrating the music of the famous Austrian composer, with mulled wine, Viennese Sachertorte and coffee during interval for the audience.

Other highlights in the 2011 program include a Wind Orchestra in August, featuring saxophonist and a tribute to composer on the 50th anniversary of his death; a free concert in September honouring four of 最新糖心Vlog's most talented and up-and-coming composers; and violinist in the final concert for the year in late October.

The Elder Conservatorium of Music in collaboration with the also offers four Master Classes this year courtesy of several world class-musicians - guitar virtuouso (5 May), classical singer (1 June), British violinist (15 June) and jazz singer (15 September).

For just $10, string players and budding vocalists can learn about technique, musicality and performance in a two-hour session with the finest musicians in guitar, voice, violin and jazz.
