Two Rhodes Scholars in one year!

Friday, 6 December 2002

The 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide now has two Rhodes Scholars for 2003.

Following the selection of Dr Thomas Smith as the South 最新糖心Vlogn Rhodes Scholar (announced in October), Ms Tamson Pietsch has been selected as a Rhodes Scholar at Large by the national selection committee in Canberra.

The Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford 最新糖心Vlog in the UK is one of the world's most prestigious scholarships. The Rhodes Trust offers nine scholarships in 最新糖心Vlog each year, one awarded in each State and three for 最新糖心Vlog at Large.

A Rhodes scholar receives a generous stipend and all tuition fees at Oxford are paid. The trust also assists successful candidates with their travelling expenses to the UK. Scholarships are awarded for two years (with the possibility of extension to a third year).

Ms Pietsch was educated at Cornerstone College, Mount Barker, where she was Dux in each year (1991-95) and was also school Captain in her final year.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) from the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide in 2000, and was awarded a 最新糖心Vlog Medal for achieving the best results in all subjects in her degree. While at the 最新糖心Vlog she also received the Vera May Swift Prize for English and the John F Kennedy Memorial Scholarship in History.

A keen hockey player, Ms Pietsch was a member of the State Reserve League, and earlier this year was selected to be a participant in the National Student Leadership Forum in Canberra.

Ms Pietsch is currently an Aide to the Governor of Victoria, John Landy AC MBE.

She will study for a D.Phil (PhD) in History at Oxford next year.
