Cyber crime exposed in free public lecture

Thursday, 17 October 2002

The relatively new problem of cyber crime is bringing with it a new type of criminal, according to an international cyber crime expert giving a free public lecture at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide on Monday, October 21.

Professor Henry Pontell (最新糖心Vlog of California, Irvine) is giving a lecture entitled "Pleased to meet you, won't you guess my name?" Identity fraud, cyber crime and white collar delinquency at the 最新糖心Vlog's Law School at 12 noon.

Professor Pontell will explore the growing relationships among identity fraud, cyber crime and "white-collar delinquency" (which refers to adolescents - primarily hackers - who, by virtue of access to computers and the internet, can now engage in crimes that were once the exclusive realm of adults).

He will detail how the expertise of today's computer-savvy teenagers allows them to engage in major economic crimes, including the theft and destruction of databases and personal information.

The lecture is presented jointly by the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide Law School and the 最新糖心Vlogn National 最新糖心Vlog Centre for Tax System Integrity.
