Free public lecture: the future of disease

Tuesday, 13 August 2002

The common infectious diseases associated with poor housing, poor nutrition and poor education have largely disappeared from 最新糖心Vlogn society, but a new threat to public health is emerging: diseases caused by lifestyle factors and age.

In a free public lecture for National Science Week, Professor Justin Beilby, Head of General Practice at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, will address one of the most important questions facing modern 最新糖心Vlogn society: how should healthcare be delivered in the future?

This talk will examine how the general practitioner in 2002 is adjusting to new management models for people with asthma, diabetes and heart disease at a time when there are little or no new available resources.

Teams, management plans, community care, computerisation and consumer education and partnership are some of the suggested ways forward that will be discussed in this important examination of our public health system.

A panel discussion featuring respiratory diseases specialist Professor Richard Ruffin and asthma specialist Dr Nigel Cooper, as well as a General Practitioner, will follow Professor Beilby's talk.
