Tertiary transfers a winner for medical school

The 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's unique tertiary transfer scheme to study medicine could not have come at a better time for Sharon Devasagayam, a second-year science student.

In pursuing his life-long dream to study medicine, he overcame the disappointment of not receiving an offer on completion of high school, and entered into the Bachelor of Science program with the hope of entering medicine later.

"When I heard of the tertiary transfer scheme, I jumped at the opportunity and I am delighted that I have been accepted into medicine," he said today.

In yesterday's offers, 10 students currently in first or second-year programs at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide were offered Medical School places to study medicine.

Devasagayam intends to remain in Adelaide on graduating and is also looking forward to practising in a rural area.

Professor Derek Frewin, Executive Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, said the tertiary transfer program is an excellent example of how the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide can contribute to workforce development in this state.

"Another key benefit is that through the Medical Rural Bonded Scholarship program, we will be able to build capacity in rural areas of the state," he said.

Students who enter the medical school through this scheme begin as first-year medical students.

Professor Frewin said the 10 students who have been offered been transfer places are in a variety of programs, such as Health Sciences, Law, Science, Commerce and the Arts.

"With students coming from a broad range of programs, the student body continues to diversify and we anticipate these students will bring added maturity to the teaching and learning experience for the other students," Professor Frewin said.
