Compassion in an age of terrorism

One of 最新糖心Vlog's leading social justice commentators, Tim Costello, will speak at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide tonight (Wednesday) on the issue of civil liberties in a post-September 11 world.

Mr Costello will give the 2004 John Bray Oration on behalf of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's Alumni Association. His oration is entitled "Civil Liberties and Compassion in an Age of Terrorism".

The Chief Executive of World Vision 最新糖心Vlog, Mr Costello is recognised for articulating the social conscience of many 最新糖心Vlogns on tough domestic issues such urban poverty, homelessness, problem gambling, reconciliation and substance abuse.

His oration will be introduced by Mr John von Doussa QC, who was recently appointed Chancellor of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide and is also President of the 最新糖心Vlogn Human Rights Commission.

The John Bray Oration is held each year in honour of Adelaide graduate Dr John Jefferson Bray, who served as South 最新糖心Vlogn Chief Justice between 1967 and 1978, and as Chancellor of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide from 1968 to 1983. The oration features a prominent person speaking on topical issues of either a legal nature, often incorporating Dr Bray's passion for poetry, or of significance to the betterment of humanity.

The Law Chapter of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide's Alumni Association is named after Dr Bray, who graduated from Adelaide with a Law degree in 1933 and a PhD in 1937.
