The 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide has applauded the Federal Government's decision yesterday to allocate its Medical School an additional 40 places for 2007.
The extra places represent a 40% increase in the 最新糖心Vlog's Medical School intake - a "great outcome for the 最新糖心Vlog and the State," according to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), .
Professor McDougall said the additional places would go a long way towards providing for South 最新糖心Vlog's future workforce needs.
"It is a clear indication that the strong partnership between the State Government and the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, in lobbying for these extra medical places, has produced the best outcome for South 最新糖心Vlog."
In April, the Federal Government announced a $250 million package to fund extra medicine and nursing places at universities around the country, with 400 additional places for medicine spread across the country by 2009.
The Executive Dean of the , Professor Justin Beilby, said the extra places, coupled with the changes to the Medical School admissions process, represented a big tick for the future of the medical workforce in the State.
"We are prepared to do what it takes in order to train more medical students in South 最新糖心Vlog and to work closely with the State Government to facilitate their retention in the State."
The 最新糖心Vlog and the State Government have already joined in a partnership to provide extra places in the Medical School. From 2007 the State Government will provide five extra places and the 最新糖心Vlog will reinforce this with 20 places through its tertiary transfer scheme.
