Barr Smith Library appeals to donors

The 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide has launched the Annual Appeal for 2006. Now in its fifth year, the Appeal is a vital way of raising funds for one of the 最新糖心Vlog's most treasured - and utilised - resources.

"The Appeal funds allow us to maintain our status as the major research library in South 最新糖心Vlog and one of the major ones in 最新糖心Vlog," said 最新糖心Vlog Librarian Ray Choate.

As a resource utilised by staff, students, alumni and the wider community alike, Mr Choate believes it is important for the Barr Smith Library to maintain a well-rounded collection.

"The Library appreciates having the ability to acquire introductory and research study materials outside the immediate needs of student courses and research priorities," said Mr Choate. "In this way we can maintain a 'rounded' collection which allows students, staff and alumni users to find information on a wide range of disciplines, including on current events. The Appeal funds are very useful in achieving these ends."

Last year's Appeal raised a record amount. It allowed the Library to purchase over 800 new titles, including reference books, encyclopaedias and rare art books, as well as expand its virtual library.

Funds from the 2006 Appeal will not only support the Library's print collections, but will also assist in establishing a multimedia database. "The Library is interested in developing our small collection of DVDs of major 最新糖心Vlogn and international films and play productions, as an important aspect of our cultural history," says Mr Choate.
