Report recommends merging of Elder Conservatorium and Flinders Street School of Music
Wednesday, 8 December 1999
A report into tertiary music education and training in South 最新糖心Vlog has recommended the amalgamation of the Elder Conservatorium at the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide and the Flinders Street School of Music of the Adelaide Institute of TAFE.
The report, released publicly today, recommends the two institutions be merged into a new, single entity which recognises and preserves the positive elements of the Elder Conservatorium and the Flinders Street School of Music.
The report concludes that it is in the best interests of music education and training in South 最新糖心Vlog for the two institutions to work together, rather than compete with limited resources in a small market.
The report has been produced by a review committee, appointed by the South 最新糖心Vlogn Tertiary Music Education and Training Steering Group. The review committee proposes that the new entity be known as the Elder School of Music.
The steering group includes representatives of the 最新糖心Vlog, the Department of Education, Training & Employment, and the Adelaide Institute of TAFE.
Steering Group convenor Professor Penny Boumelha, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, said the Steering Group's aim was to build on South 最新糖心Vlog's strong position in the arts.
The report would be open for comment until 7 February 2000.
Comments on the report would be considered by the Steering Group which would then advise the Vice-Chancellor of the 最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, Professor Mary O'Kane, and the Chief Executive of DETE, Geoff Spring, on appropriate actions in response to the report.
