For PhD student Julie Morgan, the聽support of the Ian Wilson Liberal聽Research Scholarship is more than just financial 鈥� it鈥檚 a source of contemplation聽and energy.

鈥淚t has contributed to me trusting my聽intellect more and I am deeply grateful聽for that,鈥� says Julie, who is completing聽her PhD in medicine this year.

鈥淚 have come to understand what it聽means to give, and how that giving can聽evolve in others and over time. It is my聽absolute pleasure to have had these聽experiences, and to have grown as a聽person in ways far beyond how I could聽have anticipated.鈥�

Being awarded the scholarship聽allowed Julie more time to spend on聽research, which she says has potentially聽far-reaching effects on the role physiotherapists can play in treating聽neuropsychiatric conditions.

鈥淚 have been really touched by what I聽have received from this scholarship and聽I have come to understand that what I聽conceive of can have value and positive聽impacts,鈥� she says.

Three other recipients of the Ian聽Wilsons scholarship, PhD students聽Ashlee Borgkvist, Kaitlin Harkess and聽Jana Sisnowski have also benefited聽enormously from the support.

Kaitlin is completing a PhD/Masters聽program in Psychology and says that the聽scholarship has allowed her to dedicate聽her spare time to research, rather than聽having to take on further paid work.

鈥淚 have been able to maintain a more聽balanced life and produce better quality research as well as develop more refined聽psychotherapeutic skills when providing聽therapy. This impacts both my own聽capacities and sense of self, but more聽broadly it allows me to provide a richer聽service to our community,鈥� says Kaitlin.

Ashlee and Jana echo these sentiments聽鈥� both grateful for the ability to devote聽themselves to their studies without聽worrying about their financial situations.

The late Ian Wilson loved his years at the聽最新糖心Vlog of Adelaide, and during his life聽he spoke admiringly of the inspirational聽lecturers and tutors that helped stimulate聽his interest in his subjects. Ian served聽as a Federal Minister of Parliament for聽27 years and was Chair and member of聽many community organisations.

鈥淚an valued opportunities for education聽and he wanted to give back to the society which he felt had given him聽so much,鈥� says his wife Mary.

It is fitting then that his legacy, through the聽Ian Wilson Liberal Research Scholarship,聽is supporting students to undertake聽research in the field of public health for聽the wellbeing of individuals and society.

Mary takes great delight in having met聽and learnt of the successes of the students supported by the scholarship.聽鈥淚t is very refreshing to experience their聽enthusiasm and commitment to further聽their studies; their thoughtful openness聽and the interdisciplinary approach in the聽area of public health,鈥� she says.

鈥淚an would have been delighted with the聽selection of these outstanding, idealistic聽students who want to make a difference聽and contribute to society.鈥�
