Seminar Title: "Conceptualising and Assessing the Diverse Values of Nature: Main Insights from the IPBES Values Assessment, Summary for Policy Makers"

Overview: , which will be published on the 11th July 2022, represents a definitive new global synthesis of the state of nature, ecosystems and nature's contributions to people — the first such report since the landmark t published in 2005, and the first ever that is inter-governmental. It has been created by 82 leading international experts from 47 countries from all regions of the world, drawing on more than 13,000 references at a total cost of more than US$1 million over 4 years. ÌýProf. Raymond will present an overview of the key messages of the IPBES Values Assessment, including how to understand, measure and make visible the diverse values of nature; leverage the diverse values of nature for transformative change towards sustainability, and embed the values of nature in transformative decision-making for sustainability.

Biography: Prof Raymond is Professor of Sustainability Science (Sustainability Transformations and Ecosystem Services) at the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS), ×îÐÂÌÇÐÄVlog of Helsinki, Finland. He is jointly based at the Ecosystems and Environment Research Programme in the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, and the Department of Economics and Management in the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry. His research interests include sense of place; nature-based solutions; the social valuation of nature; and the conservation of biodiversity. Since 2018, Prof. Raymond has been Coordinating Lead Author (Chapter 2) of the IPBES Values Assessment.
