  • Learning & Teaching Activities
    Learning & Teaching Modes

This course is designed for undergraduate students in the Construction Management program. Our aim is to provide you with the essential toolkit required for conducting research in these fields. By the conclusion of this course, you will possess a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles, strategies, techniques, and ethical considerations essential for conducting academic research in these disciplines.

This course is structured around two main modules, each meticulously crafted to guide you toward scholarly excellence:

Module 1: Understanding the Key Research Components

In this module, we will explore the foundational elements of research. Through critical analysis of scholarly articles, we will dissect the nuances of research contributions, aims, objectives, questions, and conclusions, delving deeply into each aspect. In this module, students will grasp the fundamental concepts associated with these components and explore their inter-relationships. They will engage with fundamental questions such as what is research?, where research begins?, how it develops?, and how it concludes? thereby gaining a holistic understanding of the research process.

Module 2: Understanding the Importance of Research Methodology

Our second module invites students to explore the diverse methodologies and data analysis approaches that underpin rigorous research in construction and property management. Through the examination of scholarly articles employing various approaches, students will gain insights into the intricacies of research design and data analysis approaches. By evaluating the suitability and effectiveness of these methodologies, it is expected that students will emerge with a newfound appreciation for the art and science of research methodology.

This course employs a blended learning approach, combining pre-recorded lectures available on MyUni with mandatory in-person workshops. Students are expected to watch the lectures prior to attending the workshops.

    Workload

The information below is provided as a guide to assist students in engaging appropriately with the course requirements.

The 最新糖心Vlog expects full-time students (ie. those taking 12 units per semester) to devote at least 48 hours per week to their studies. Accordingly, students undertaking this 3-unit course are expected to devote 12 hours per week to contact activities and self-guided studies.

Based on this framework, here are some figures that might assist workload management:
    For a 3-unit course:

    • Total workload hours: 12 Hrs per week x 13 weeks = 156 Hrs
    • Total contact hours: 3 Hrs per week x 12 weeks = 36 Hrs
    • Total self-guided study: 156 Hrs – 36 Hrs = 120 Hrs
These 120 hours should be dedicated to preparing weekly tasks, completing assignments, and developing the necessary skills to succeed in the course. Please manage your time wisely.
    Learning Activities Summary
The course includes a variety of learning activities designed to support students' understanding and application of key concepts. These activities include weekly recorded lectures, compulsory workshops, and practical tasks aimed at building skills relevant to assignments. The structure encourages active engagement and independent learning, preparing students to meet course objectives effectively. Students are encouraged to manage their time well to keep up with each component.
    Specific Course Requirements
Students are expected to watch the weekly lecture prior to attending the weekly workshops as the knowledge delivered through the lecture would assist in completing the activities during workshops.
