EDUC 7080 - Inclusive Education and Student Diversity

North Terrace Campus - Summer - 2025

In this course, educators will explore the philosophies and principles of inclusive education, and its significance in creating equitable learning environments for all students. The course will provide educators with insights into legal and policy frameworks related to inclusive education at international, national, and local levels. They will explore the alignment between global understandings of inclusive education, and PNG values and ways of knowing. Relevant and ongoing issues, such as climate change, will inform this process. Educators will examine various dimensions of diversity, including cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic, and ability differences, and analyse historical and contemporary barriers to inclusion. They will explore the importance of partnering with key stakeholders (such as families, other professionals, and community support services) when seeking to work as an inclusive practitioner. Educators will engage in critical reflection to examine personal beliefs, biases, and assumptions related to diversity and inclusion. They will be introduced to the notion of practitioner inquiry and begin to develop their PoPP inquiry.
