EDUC 7081 - Teaching and Learning in an Inclusive Classroom

North Terrace Campus - Semester 1 - 2025

This course will equip educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to create inclusive learning environments where all students can thrive, academically and socially. Educators will interrogate the notion of the classroom as a learning ecosystem and examine the role of classroom climate in supporting diverse cohorts of students. They will explore, analyse and evaluate practices and strategies to create inclusive and safe classroom cultures. Throughout the course, educators will explore, analyse, and evaluate frameworks (such as Universal Design for Learning) to promote access to the curriculum for diverse cohorts of students. They will learn ways to differentiate the curriculum through responsive planning and interrogate the use of data to inform this. Educators will also explore assistive technologies and other digital resources to support students with specific disabilities and other special educational needs to access the curriculum. Educators will have the opportunity to reflect on their own planning practices and continue to develop their PoPP inquiry. They will develop action plans for implementing inclusive strategies in their classrooms.
