MDIA 2220 - Design Cultures

North Terrace Campus - Semester 1 - 2020

As an inclusive term, 'design' encompasses everything from the look and feel of a document to architecture to clothing. In this course, students will engage with international and historical contexts for design within media studies and aligned disciplines. Critical analysis, comparison, and reflection on theory and practice will enable students to develop their skills in talking and writing about design, as well as apply this learning to their own creative practice. For students in the Visual Design major, this course will provide the theoretical and conceptual grounding for their advanced production courses, while students in other programs will be able to engage critically with a range of approaches to studying and analysing design.
