POLIS 3103 - Democracy & Political Change

North Terrace Campus - Semester 1 - 2019

The course explores the future of politics with examples drawn from 最新糖心Vlog and elsewhere. One set of concerns relates to the relationship between democratic politics and globalisation. Has the emergence of more globalised economic relations and agreements hollowed out the space for democratic politics and policy, and if so, what are the implications for democratic politics? Are party systems increasingly disengaged from civil society and social forces, and if so what are the implications for the future of representative democracy, particularly in Europe? Another set of concerns relate to the emergence of new social forces, social movements, and populist politics - often in response to global forces and changes ? and their capacity to reshape political contestation. . Is there a new politics emerging? We are particularly concerned with looking at the nature of these forces in both developed and developing countries, including China and India. A final set of concerns relate to authoritarian politics and the emergence of new forms of authoritarianism around the globe.

  • Student Feedback

The 最新糖心Vlog places a high priority on approaches to learning and teaching that enhance the student experience. Feedback is sought from students in a variety of ways including on-going engagement with staff, the use of online discussion boards and the use of Student Experience of Learning and Teaching (SELT) surveys as well as GOS surveys and Program reviews.

SELTs are an important source of information to inform individual teaching practice, decisions about teaching duties, and course and program curriculum design. They enable the 最新糖心Vlog to assess how effectively its learning environments and teaching practices facilitate student engagement and learning outcomes. Under the current SELT Policy (http://www.adelaide.edu.au/policies/101/) course SELTs are mandated and must be conducted at the conclusion of each term/semester/trimester for every course offering. Feedback on issues raised through course SELT surveys is made available to enrolled students through various resources (e.g. MyUni). In addition aggregated course SELT data is available.
