Student will need to obtain initial direction/orientation from their supervisor at the commencement of the Selective.

Learning & Teaching Activities
Learning & Teaching Modes
It is expected during their Primary Care Selective that students will see their own patients independently and formulate their own management plans. Students should have the opportunity to parallel consult wherever possible.
Workload
The information below is provided as a guide to assist students in engaging appropriately with the course requirements.
Workload for the individual students will vary from week to week but students can assume that on average they will work a 45 hour week which will include clinic sessions, lectures (both delivered and online), seminars, tutorials and private study but does not include after-hours call.

Individual"once-off/self-created" SCAPs may be negotiated (interstate/overseas) for student’s Medicine, Surgery, Primary Care OR Psychiatry SCAP. Only ONE self-created SCAP may be created in Year 6. The self-created SCAP must be approved by the relevant Discipline before it can be accepted.

Assessment Summary
Assessment for the selective rotations may vary slightly depending on whether the attachment is clinical or non-clinical but is essentially based around the following:

Students should actively seek out information on rotation assessment at the beginning of their clinical attachment. Further information can be obtained from either the MSA coordinator or the administrative officer at the site.
Academic Progression Requirements
To pass this course and the Final (Sixth Year) MBBS Assessment Part 1 and Part 2 courses, students must obtain:
• a satisfactory result in the components of the summative assessment in semesters 1 and 2
If a student fails one course or placement, they must undertake a remedial course or placement and must obtain a pass.
If a student fails two courses or placements, they will fail the year and must repeat the entire year.
Assessment Related Requirements
It is compulsory for students to attend clinical placements and their specific activities in line with the principles and guidelines outlined in the Medical Student Clinical Hours document.
Exemptions to mandatory clinical placement attendance requirements may be granted by the Program Coordinator in consultation with the relevant course coordinator and year level advisor if there are exceptional medical, compassionate or extenuating circumstances as defined by the Modified Arrangements for Coursework Assessment Policy.
As part of the Primary Care Selective, students will be required to keep a logbook of practical procedures and skills they complete during their rotation. As part of the handbook students receive at the beginning of the rotation are a list ofessential core skills which must be completed and optional procedures and skills.Furthermore assessment will be based on an evaluation of the student’s verbal communication and written communication (referral letters, documentation).
