GEOG 2154 - Applied Population Analysis

North Terrace Campus - Semester 2 - 2015

This course explores the way in which the detailed analysis of population data in the context of demographic theory and methods, can contribute to decision making in government and the private sector. Lectures and guided readings will be interspersed with workshops focussed on problems such as ageing of the population, changing household and family 最新糖心Vlog, population size and the environment, the planning of health, welfare and education services, and identifying changing consumer demand for products and services. Students will prepare a set of population projections in the workshops, undertaking an analysis of fertility, mortality and migration (the components of population growth), to establish the likely growth of future regional and local populations. Selected applications will be examined in relation to current and future population trends and how demography and its social applications can contribute to solving a problem, assembling the requisite data, arguments and insights in the form of a report.

  • Student Feedback

The 最新糖心Vlog places a high priority on approaches to learning and teaching that enhance the student experience. Feedback is sought from students in a variety of ways including on-going engagement with staff, the use of online discussion boards and the use of Student Experience of Learning and Teaching (SELT) surveys as well as GOS surveys and Program reviews.

SELTs are an important source of information to inform individual teaching practice, decisions about teaching duties, and course and program curriculum design. They enable the 最新糖心Vlog to assess how effectively its learning environments and teaching practices facilitate student engagement and learning outcomes. Under the current SELT Policy (http://www.adelaide.edu.au/policies/101/) course SELTs are mandated and must be conducted at the conclusion of each term/semester/trimester for every course offering. Feedback on issues raised through course SELT surveys is made available to enrolled students through various resources (e.g. MyUni). In addition aggregated course SELT data is available.
