Honours students will choose a research project from a list of available topics. A written report and an oral presentation is expected at the conclusion of various projects. The honours projects are intended to give students a taste for research and will prepare them in part to carry on their studies for a higher degree.

    On successful completion of this course students will be able to:

     
    1 Develop research skills through investigation of open-ended problems; devising solutions and modeling or testing of hypotheses as necessary.
    2 Demonstrate the ability to manage a small research group and work cooperatively and flexibly as a member of a team, contributing to team leadership as the situation requires.
    3 Demonstrate the ability to source information that will assist with the understanding of a technical problem and critically evaluate the validity, coverage and gaps in such sources of information.
    4 Develop a project plan using best practises and project management techniques including project risk, requirements, and associated milestones and time frames.
