Guest speakers
Lou Flohr
Lou pursued an agronomic career after graduating. She grew up on a wheat, hay and sheep farm in Lameroo in the Southern Mallee of SA where she now lives, running the family business with her partner, Andy, and her parents. Ìý
Her agronomic career spanned ten years, in both retail and private agronomy businesses, eventually running her own business for several years before taking some time off to raise her children. She is now on the Southern Panel for the GRDC, and enjoys raising the profile of women in agriculture.
Carly Bussenschutt
Carly graduated with a passion for agronomy and getting out there working closely with growers. After five years working as a sales and research agronomist for YPAG in Kadina, she moved back to manage the family farm on Kangaroo Island.
Carly managed the operations of the 2000ha grazing property with the opportunity to complete a Nuffield Scholarship in 2013. 2016 saw the creation Stowaway Kangaroo Island, two luxury couples retreats, an attempt to create a business that could combine being a mum with a fulfilling career, which to date it has (mostly!) succeeded in doing. Carly also enjoys being involved on her husband Adam’s 450ha sheep grazing operation with children Edward and OliviaÌý(usually willingly) in tow.
Andrew Sargeant
Andrew is a fifth generation Grain Grower Ìýin Crystal Brook. Andrew along with his parents Malcolm and Jane grow wheat, barley, lentils, canola and oaten hay. In 2019 Andrew was a Nuffield scholar and investigated how we can use open source technology in agriculture to allow better compatibility between platforms and continuity of data storage.
